I’m Bernadette, the proud owner of Beauteous Eyes. What started as a fun venture in our kitchen with a special friend, offering makeovers, basic hairstyling, and photography, quickly became a weekend sensation. We had so much fun and were overwhelmed by the response. Eventually, I convinced my husband to help me transform our garage into a beauty salon. Though initially hesitant, he agreed, and in 2016, we began our journey to create something truly special.
We initially focused on mini makeovers, while my friend continued working as a mobile hairstylist. Before long, she joined the salon full-time, and we never anticipated how rewarding this journey would become. We’ve since expanded to include hair, makeup, nails, weddings, workshops, and most importantly, empowering women by helping them rediscover their confidence.
Before COVID, my Bronwyn (my daughter) decided she wanted to pursue a career in the beauty industry. I tried everything to talk her out of it, believing the industry was oversaturated, and suggested she study law to become an attorney instead. After COVID, though, she was more determined than ever that beauty was her future. She did all the necessary research and training to become a qualified Brow Specialist, specialising in Elite brows and colour correction (PMU), Lash Extensions, Facials, makeup, hairstyling, Brazilian blow-outs, and more.
When the day came for my friend to spread her wings and open her own salon, I was heartbroken. I honestly thought my salon might close soon after. But at that moment, Bronwyn stepped up and helped me find my way. She saved me from drowning and encouraged me to become the best version of myself. Yes, my (at the time) 21-year-old daughter convinced me to believe in myself again. I never imagined it would turn out like this. We are incredibly grateful for every client who walks through our doors, whether it’s your first time or you’re a regular. Our dream is to one day have a larger salon with more treatment options.
In 2023, we were also joined by a talented nail technician who was facing personal challenges. We allowed her to join our team, and within a short time, she became a valued member of our team, creating beautiful nails. She’s creative, passionate, and so skilled. As the seasons shifted and she grew within herself, she finally felt strong enough to move in a different direction.
While it’s always bittersweet when people move on, we believe in supporting growth and embracing new opportunities. When we started looking for a new nail technician to replace her, Bronwyn came to me one day and said, “You’ll have to start doing nails for our clients; there’s such a high demand.” At first, I was hesitant and as usual, doubted myself. But in the end, I realised if you set your mind to something, you can achieve it. I took the initiative to conduct extensive research and completed the required training, and in April 2025, I proudly qualified in the Salon Professional Acrylic Course at Yobe Beauty. This journey has been both exciting and deeply rewarding, and I’m genuinely looking forward to what this year holds for Beauteous Eyes!
Located in Suiderberg, Pretoria, we specialise in brows (PMU), colour correction, lash extensions, relaxing facials, micro-needling, chemical and algae peels, dermaplaning, and nails. We also offer makeup and hairstyling services for a range of events and special occasions, including weddings, matric farewells, model portfolios, workshops, and transformational makeovers. We are looking for a passionate hairdresser to join our team and hope 2025 will bring this opportunity our way.
